A Set of Four ‘Oxford’ chairs designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen, Denmark

model no. 3172, circa 1965

The Oxford chair was designed in 1965 by Arne Jacobsen for the professors of St. Catherine’s College, Oxford. The chair’s extra high back was a symbol of prestige. The ‘Professor’s’ chair evolved into the Oxford series and was reshaped in 2003, 2005 and 2007.
