Classic and collectable cars commence keynote 21 April auction session
April 11, 2010 - Stephan Welz & Company has announced that a small but significant selection of four classic and collectable cars will be auctioned on 21 April, 2010, as the scene-setter for that day's 18h30 paintings session.

CLASSIC & COLLECTABLE CARS SET THE STAGE FOR EVENING SALE ON 21 APRIL

The inclusion of four highly desirable classic automobiles in the final session of the 20 & 21 April Johannesburg sale is certain to create an additional stratum of appeal to a paintings session that is already the keynote of the entire two days and five sessions. At 18h30 on 21 April, these vehicles will go under the hammer….four vehicles from four different eras and with entirely different look, feel, history and collectable appeal.

The oldest of this quartet of classics is a 1931 Pierce Arrow Phaeton Model 43. It is reputedly unique in being the only 1931 model produced in 1931 in South Africa. Right hand drive, 366 cubic inch engine, tan upholstery…plus it has all the right numbers, including licence and registration and is SAVVA registered. Its pre-sale estimate is a modest R400 000 – R500 000.

Somewhat younger, and certainly smaller and of more sporting character, this 1949 MG TC boasts a complete chassis-up restoration including ash frames. It is in right hand drive configuration with a 1250cc ohv twin SU motor and is fully equipped from soft top and all-weather panels through to a full tool kit. This is a concours winner, registered and licensed and pre-sale estimated at an affordable R250 000 – R300 000.

Also in a sporting mood, this much sought-after Porsche 356 Cabriolet from 1962 has been completely rebuilt over an extended period to being winner in class, 2009 Porsche 356 Registry Concours d’Etat. Right hand drive, 1600 engine with 912 crank, Reutter bodywork, original factory option cabriolet top in black Haartz fabric over grey leather interior, everything purchased, made and fitted to please the perfectionist. Pre-sale estimated at R1 000 000 – R1 200 000, this is of great international appeal.

Bringing the concept of a classic up to a modern context, this 2005 Bentley Continental GT redefines the ageless spirit of sporting motoring on a grand scale. Featuring the admired W12 engine with twin turbocharging producing 650Nm, performance vies with comfort and luxury for its raison d’etre. Silver Tempest exterior sets off the Beluga leather interior and tasteful burr walnut veneer trim. Pre-sale estimated at R1 400 000 – R1 600 000.
